Ex-MP Zafor Alam, six others netted in operation against sudden processions

DHAKA, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested seven Awami League (AL) leaders and activists including a former lawmaker in an operation against flash procession in the last 24 hours. 

The arrested have been identified as former lawmaker and Chakaria Upazila AL president Md Zafor Alam, 69, vice-president of 54 no ward of Turag Thana AL Md Sirajur Islam babu, 49, vice-president of 35 no ward of Bangshal AL, Md Warez Shikder, 48, co-organising secretary Md Shahed Alam, 40, former central members of the Awami Jubo League Shahidul Haque Chowdhury Rana, 54, Swechchhasebak League leader Zahidul Islam Tusher, 30, former president of Turag Thana Swechchhasebal League, Md Rezaul Karim, 47. 

Of the arrestees, former lawmaker Zafor Alam was arrested from the capital city's Dhanmondi area around 3:30pm on Sunday , said a DB press release. 

DB personnel in separate raids apprehended six others from Bangshal thana areas, Kamarpara area, Shanir Akhra, 18 no sector under Uttara Purba Thana areas since Sunday evening to early Monday, it said. 

The arrestees were accused in a number of criminal cases filed with different police stations.

With the latest arrest, the DB men have so far arrested 70 leaders and activists of the AL and its front bodies include the outlawed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the last nine days.
