DHAKA, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested two suspected criminals in possession of firearms and ammunition during a raid at a fish warehouse in the New Town Bazar area of Pallabi here last night.
The arrested individuals were identified as Huda Mamun, 40, and Orin, 35, according to a DMP press release issued today.
Police said the two are active members of a Mirpur-based criminal gang, allegedly led by Dubai expatriate Moshiur Rahman Moshi. The group has long been involved in extortion and drug trafficking, spreading fear among residents in the Pallabi area.
The arrests followed a recent spate of violence at the Millat Bihari Camp, where gunfire was reported on three consecutive days-April 11, 12, and 13-as rival groups clashed to gain control over local drug and extortion rackets. These incidents left the camp's residents living in fear.
Acting on intelligence, DB officials conducted a raid at the fish warehouse and apprehended Huda Mamun and Orin. During the operation, they recovered a foreign-made revolver, two bullets, and 20 rounds of submachine gun (SMG) ammunition from their possession.
During initial interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the criminal activities.
The recovered SMG rounds were identified as police ammunition that went missing during the July 2024 uprising.
