RANGPUR, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - Teesta University, a reputed private
university, observed the 17th 'Annual Save The Frogs Day' today on the city's
Modern Mor' campus aiming to raising awareness for protecting amphibian
populations.

The Veterinary Academics and Researchers Club (VARC) of the university in
collaboration with 'SAVE THE FROGS' organised rally, discussion, and tree
plantation programs marking the day.

With the participation of the teachers, students, officials and employees of
the university, the rally left the campus and circled the surrounding roads
before returning to the campus.

Later, teachers, students, faculty, and volunteers came together to plant
trees, restore green spaces, and create safer habitats for frogs and
countless other species as steps toward a healthier, greener, and more
sustainable future.

Teesta University Board of Trustees Vice-chairman and Rangpur Group Director
Mohammad Moazzem Hossain Sarkar, Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. M. Abul
Kashem, Treasurer Professor Sanjib Chowdhury, Registrar Md Ataur Rahman,
Proctor Shah Rafatur Rahman, heads, teachers and students of all departments
attended the programs.

Participating in the discussion on frogs, the speakers said that everyone is
familiar with the familiar sounds of frogs in the ponds, drains and water
bodies during the rainy season.

They said frogs have been a part of the Earth's ecosystem since the ancient
times and are found all over the world.

Frogs not only play an important role in regulating global ecosystems, but
they are also an integral part of the atmosphere, as their croaks add to the
natural environment and signal the beginning of spring in some regions.

Although the environment of rural Bangladesh is the main habitat of frogs,
many species of frogs can be seen in the cities as well.

There was a time when the survival and conservation of frogs was not
something to think about. Frogs are essential for controlling harmful insects
and protecting the food chain.

Therefore, if beneficial animals like frogs continue to decline, it will
become difficult to protect biodiversity and maintain environmental balance.

And if environmental balance is not maintained, it will become difficult for
humans to survive.

Terming frogs as an integral part of the natural environment, Vice-chancellor
Professor Dr. M. Abul Kashem called on everyone to raise awareness about the
importance of the amphibian populations and their conservation and protection
of the ecosystems.
