THAKURGAON, April 28, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the people of Bangladesh want to see a representative government.

"Elections are very important. If election is not done, the crisis of the people will not be resolved," he told a public meeting at Jagannathpur Union in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

He said the current government is saying elections will be held between December, 2025 and June, 2026

He demanded a clear roadmap of the elections.

Fakhrul said, "In the last 15 years, we have been oppressed. I could not meet many people in Thakurgaon, because we were not allowed to live in peace."

During the 2014 elections, about 9 people were killed in this area, he said.

"In the 2018 elections, we could not enter the area, cars were being burnt, roads were being blocked so that we could not reach the people," he added.

"During this time, the economy has been destroyed for decades. Lakhs of crores of taka have been laundered abroad, banks have been looted. Corruption has been done in the name of road construction," he added.

Regarding future plans, the BNP General Secretary said that if the BNP comes to power in the future, then the highest priority will be given to creating jobs with a view to to providing jobs to youths.

Later, Mirza Fakhrul addressed another public meeting in the Boro Khochabari area of the same union.
