DHAKA, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on eight directors of Prochhaya Limited over their involvement in alleged embezzlement of around Taka 59,000 crore from the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) by ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members.

The eight people, who have been barred by the court from leaving the country, are Shaheen Siddique, Bushra Siddique, Shehtaj Munnasi Khan, Shahid Uddin Khan, Shafik Ahmed, Parija Painaj Khan, Naorin Tasmia Siddique and Farjana Anjum.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing an appeal of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The anti-graft body in its plea said it has already formed a seven-member probe team to investigate and submit report on allegations of embezzlement of around Taka 59,000 crore from the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) by Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, sister Sheikh Rehana, niece Tulip Siddique and others.

"The directors of Prochhaya Limited have links with this and if they manage to leave the country, the probe team would face difficulties in getting the necessary evidences, which can eventually hamper the probe," the ACC plea said.
