Ex-Addl SP sent to jail for pinpointing July protesters thru drones

DHAKA, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today sent to jail former additional superintendent of police (Additional SP) Ishtiaq Ahmed in a case lodged over Chankharpul massacre that took place during July-August mass uprising.

"He (Ishtiaq) was shown arrested in ICT BD Misc Case 05/25 and was sent to jail," a police official posted at the tribunal told BSS on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, ICT prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman said Ishtiaq Ahmed was arrested from Rangamati and was produced at the tribunal this noon.

"Ishtiaq Ahmed was the former supervisor of the police's Digital Forensics Team. He is accused of flying drones through his team in Dhaka, pinpointing the pro-uprising activists and supplying the information to RAB and other law enforcing agencies and even to Awami League cadres, to take action," Prosecutor Noman said.
