DHAKA, April 30, 2025 (BSS) – Police arrested an elderly man allegedly for raping a five-year-old girl from capital’s Sabujbagh area in the small hours of today. 

The arrestee was identified as Md Yusuf Ali Patwari, 65, principal accused in the case.    

A team of Kadamtali Thana police arrested Yusuf in a raid at Basabo area under Sabujbagh Thana area around 4am today by taking the help of technology, said a police press release. 

Earlier on April 25, Yusuf raped the minor girl after taking her to the third floor of a closed factory near 9 numbers Balur Math under Kadamtali police station by offering her chocolate and biscuit. 

Two individuals including Shafiqul Islam Shahin helped Yusuf to do the crime. 

After hearing the scream  of the child, locals rushed to the place of occurrence and held Shahin, but the rapist managed to flee  with the help of Shahin and an another unidentified person, the release said.

A rape case was filed accusing Yusuf as the main accused with Kadamtali police station.

Yusuf gave confessional statement under section 144 of the criminal procedure code when  he was produced before the court today in the rape case.
