PATUAKHALI, April 30, 2025(BSS) - The ministry of women and children affairs’ today handed over two cheques to the mother of martyred daughter Lamia at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.

Lamia, daughter of July martyred Jasim Uddin of Dumki upazila of the district, recently committed suicide after being raped by a gang of miscreants of the area.

A delegation of the ministry led by its senior assistant secretary of the women and children repression prevention wing Sarawat Mehjabin reached the cabin of Lamia’s mother Ruma Begum (35) at the hospital at about 1.30pm today.

She (Mehjabin) inquired about the health condition of Ruma Begum and handed over two cheques, on behalf of the ministry.

Among others, Superintendent of Patuakhali Medical College Hospital Dr Dilruba Yasmin Liza, Nazareth Deputy Commissioner (NDC) of Patuakhali Md Sakib Ul-Alam, Deputy Director of the Women Affairs Directorate Shirin Sultana and Women Affairs Officer of Dumki Upazila Shahida Begum, accompanied the ministry representative at that time.

Ruma Begum became seriously ill after the death of her husband and daughter and got admitted to the hospital recently with multiple complexities.

She demanded to the government for ensuring exemplary punishment of the killers of her husband and the rapists of her daughter.

The senior assistant secretary of the ministry told Ruma Begum that her ministry has been working on it and exemplary punishment to the rapists of Lamia would be ensured.
