200 kgs of bomb of World War II defused in Munshiganj

DHAKA, April 30, 2025 (BSS) - The CTTC's Bomb Disposal Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has deactivated a 150-200 kg military ordinance (aerial bomb) of the World War II in Munshiganj district in Bangladesh.

A squad of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) defused the bomb yesterday which was largest evere found in Bangladesh at Aralia village of Baluakandi Union under Gazaria police station in Munshiganj district, said a police press release.

CTTC sources said the bomb was found around 6:45 am on April 28 last by an excavator driver while he was digging soil in the land of one Jamal Uddin.

The landowner later covered the object with soil and informed the police of the matter.

After receiving the information, a joint team of Gazaria Police Station and army reached the spot and identified it as a bomb, the press release said.

Later, the Bomb Disposal Unit of CTTC was informed.

A 12-member team of the CTTC's Bomb Disposal Unit rushed to the spot team on April 29 afternoon and examined the bomb.

After examination, it was found that the recovered object was a highly dangerous aerial bomb from the World War II era and weighed approximately 150-200 kg, the release said.

Later, around 8:00pm on April 29, the CTTC's Bomb Disposal Unit successfully defused the bomb, it said.

Due to proper safety measures during the deactivation, there was no loss of life or major damage, it added.

This courageous and professional action by CTTC's Bomb Disposal Unit has brought relief to the local residents, it continued.
