300kg gel-injected shrimp seized in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, May 2, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 300 kgs of shrimp with jelly-like substances in their bodies from five pickup vans at Alia Madrasa moor under Satkhira sadar upazila of the district on Thursday night.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Ashraful Haque, Commander of the BGB-33 Battalion in Satkhira, confirmed the seizure through a press release.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and recovered 900 kgs shrimp, according to a press release.
 
Later, the seized shrimps were examined by the Senior Fisheries Officer of Satkhira Sadar Upazila Md Shafiqul Islam and the BGB team.

Out of the 900 kgs of shrimps, 300 kgs of shrimps were found to contain jelly or adulterants that are harmful to the human body, the release added.

However, five fish traders were fined Tk 49,000 for marketing shrimps with jelly-like substances.
