DHAKA, May 2, 2025 (BSS) – National Citizens' Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today urged to form ‘Anti-Fascist Monch’ in every locality to ensure trial of the fascist Awami League (AL).
“Awami League is no longer a political party-it has become a party of fascists, and fascists have no right to engage in politics. To ensure AL’s trial, we are calling to form ‘Anti-Fascist Monch’ across the country,” he said.
Nahid was addressing a public meeting in South gate of the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque here this afternoon.
NCP Dhaka Metropolitan unit organized the meeting to press home their demand banning Awami League politics.
Thousands of people from different parts of the capital joined the meeting with processions. Family members of the July martyrs and injured protesters also participated in the rally.
Presiding over the event, Nahid urged the interim government to revoke AL’s registration as a political party until the court delivers a verdict regarding its operational legitimacy.
“It has been internationally proven that AL committed crimes against humanity during the July-August movement. We will not allow any election to be held before the trial of AL and necessary reforms,” Nahid said.
He warned that the people would not tolerate any attempt to rehabilitate Awami League.
“We couldn’t declare the July Proclamation due to various conspiracies. But, the interim government assured us of announcing the proclamation in accordance with national consensus,” Nahid said.
He called upon the interim government to declare the July Proclamation immediately and include a clear provision in it for banning the AL.
“The government must declare the proclamation without any further delay,” he emphasized.
NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen said, “the interim government did not come to power like previous caretaker governments. Rather, their authority stems from the blood of martyrs and the wounded persons. If they behave like 'civil society' figures, the masses will respond accordingly.”
“We will not allow Awami League to do politics on this land as long as we breathe. We will strongly resist anyone who tries to rehabilitate fascism,” Akhter added, urging all political parties to unite to ban the AL.
NCP’s key organizer (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah said, “the interim government stands on the blood of martyrs and the wounded, who sacrificed their lives to eliminate fascism. Today, we are not here with any request, but to declare our decision to ban the AL.
“And our decision is simple and clear. AL must be banned immediately,” he said.
Calling for the enforcement of a ban on the Awami League, NCP’s key organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam said that those people who have committed atrocities and killed innocent people have no right to participate in politics.
“The interim government must impose a ban on the party immediately. If AL returns, the people of this land will no longer be able to breathe freely,” he added.
“Banning AL is no longer just a political issue-it has become a judicial one. The people of this country are the ultimate authority to decide whether AL should be allowed to participate in politics,” he said, adding that they would continue their struggle until the Awami League is uprooted.
