DHAKA, May 2, 2025 (BSS)- Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on the Health Ministry Professor Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman today called upon the pharmacists to think about working at the community pharmacy.

"Pharmacists should think about community pharmacy beyond industrial pharmacy and hospitals or clinical pharmacy," he said.

He came up with the opinion at a meeting with stakeholders on the role and appointment of graduate pharmacists in hospitals in health services.

He said the main reason for the deterioration of the services in hospitals was the higher number of patients than the capacity.

Currently, there is a balance between doctors and nurses in hospitals, he said.

Dr Sayedur said the government is creating posts for pharmacists in hospitals under the new guidelines.

He stressed the need for changing the mentality in the field of work prior to bringing changes in the curriculum.

Sayedur encouraged the students to be interested in joining health services.

"A drug store or pharmacy should be established with a graduate pharmacist," he said.

So, the government is taking some new initiatives to this end, he said.

"We are creating posts for pharmacists in the health management of Bangladesh," he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Pharmacy Council President and Health Services Division Secretary Md Saidur Rahman said the posts of pharmacists have been created in government hospitals with six posts in a 600-bed hospital.

Pharmacy Council Vice President Professor Chowdhury Mahmud Hasan said, "Doctors never want anyone to interfere with their prescriptions. This has to be changed. Come on, let's start. We can't do it everywhere, but we can start it in hospitals."

A Taiwanese Professor also spoke at the event, chaired by Pharmacy Council Hospital Committee President Naser Shahriar Zahedi.

Pharmacy Council Secretary Mahbubul Haque gave the address of welcome.
