CHATTOGRAM, May  3, 2025 (BSS - Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) General Secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan today said if the unity of the anti-fascist forces is ruined, the dream of building a democratic republic will be shattered subsequently.

“All political forces will have to face the challenges of the old state system and politics unitedly. . . the possibility of implementing 'participatory democracy' against the colonial rule has become very bright,” he said.

The JSD leader was addressing as the chief guest at the party’s representatives meeting of Greater Chittagong and Hilly districts at the S Rahman Hall of the Chittagong Press Club here this afternoon.

He said the fundamental reforms in the state politics are one of the promises of the mass-uprising, which would help tackle the fascist forces.

“The change or reform of the state’s power structure has now become more relevant in the politics of Bangladesh,” he added.

Noting that without major reforms, the struggle to change the state or society will be seriously hampered, the JSD general secretary said the importance of 'reform' according to the wishes of the people in post-mass uprising Bangladesh is immense.

Swapan said the significance of formulating a 'national charter' based on consensus on the issue of reforms to face the dictatorship or fascism is far-reaching.

Chattogram City Unit Convener of JSD Mohammad Mujtaba Kamal presided over the meeting.

JSD Standing Committee members - Dr. Zabiul Hossain, Mohammad Ilias Mia, Vice-President Sarwar Hossain, President of Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists Union Mohammad Shah Nawaz, Chittogram Unit of  JSD leaders Captain Shahid Uddin Mahbub, Mohammad Yakub, Professor Ishaq Uddin Chowdhury, Abu Taher and Mohammad Sanaullah, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
