5 including AL Dohar Thana GS held in city

DHAKA, May 4 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate 
raids arrested five Awami League (AL) men including its Dohar Thana unit 
general secretary (GS) from different parts of the capital city during the 
last 24 hours.
 
The detainees were identified as General Secretary of Dohar Thana AL Md. 
Nurul Haque, 67, Senior Joint General Secretary of Mohammadpur Thana 
Matsyajibi League Md. Tausif Reza, a close associate of former mayor of Dhaka 
South City Corporation Sayeed Khokon, Md. Zubair Ashraf Anan, 37, former 
vice-president of Metropolitan North Committee of the banned Bangladesh 
Chhatra League and member of the convening committee of Sirajganj District 
Jubo League, Md. Jewel Sarkar, 36, and AL activist and ringleader of the 
pirate Ripon Bahini of Goagachia area of Gazaria, Munshiganj district Ripon, 
41. 

Deputy Commissioner of the DB (media and public relations) Muhammad Talebur 
Rahman confirmed. 

Of them, Dohar Thana AL general secretary Nurul Haque was arrested from the 
city's Segunbagicha area around 9:30am today. 

He is accused in multiple cases of July uprising in Dohar and Khilgaon police 
stations. 

The DB personnel also arrested Ripon from Motijheel area around 2:30 today. 
There are 23 cases against him in different police stations of Munshiganj and 
Chandpur districts.

Separate teams of the DB arrested Reza from Tejgaon area while Anan from Alu 
Bazar area under Bangshal police station and Jewel was arrested from Mirpur 
area on Saturday night. 

The DB said they are involved in organising and destabilizing the country by 
destroying the law and order and creating panic in the public mind by holding 
sudden processions in different parts of the capital.

Cases have been filed against the arrestees in various police stations on 
specific charges.
