Narayanganj regional passport office reopened after 9 months

NARAYANGANJ, May 4, 2025(BSS) - The Regional Passport Office (RPO) of Narayanganj was reopened today after nine months with modern facilities and necessary reforms.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Narayanganj Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah inaugurated the refurnished regional passport office and inspected the activities of the office.

After reopening the office, DC Zahidul Islam said that passport is an important document of nationality of a citizen and it is very important for those who are connected with industries as they used to travel abroad frequently.

Special mobile court would be run if any information of brokers is noticed, the DC said adding that there will be no space in the passport office for the brokers. 

The concerned authorities should have to be careful about the Rohingas and non-Bangladeshis as they could not collect any Bangladeshi passport from here, he added.

Jamal Hossain, Deputy Director of the RPO said that the normal functioning of the passport office has reopened today after long nine months. 
Nearly 8,000 passports were burnt here during last July uprising of which nearly 7,000 passports have already issued from Agargaon Regional Passport Office, the DD said adding that the rest passports would be delivered from here soon.

The regional passport office has been reopened with latest digital infrastructure and modern security system. 

Many people gathered at the office for applying new passports or renewal of previous passports. The people who came from different areas of the district expressed their satisfaction over the smooth service as there was no broker or any hazard.

Several thousand passports were burnt; computer and office furniture were damaged on July 18 and 19 last year during the anti-discrimination students’ movement. 

The entire building was burnt into ashes at that time and all activities of the passport office were suspended resulting to people of the commercially important in the district suffered a lot.
