Japanese envoy meets BNP secretary general

DHAKA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi today called on BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson's Gulshan political office here.

BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and organizing secretary Shama Obaid were present.

After the meeting, Amir Khasru told reporters that various issues including physical condition of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, her home return, trade, investment and elections were discussed.

He said Japan has always been a development partner of Bangladesh. They (Japan) naturally want the working environment to continue with the new government that comes in the future, he said.

Khasru said Japan has big investments in Bangladesh and have many plans to invest in Bangladesh in future. 

“We have discussed those issues and we always seek Japanese investment,” he said.

“Everyone is interested in the elections. Japan also wants to know the polls time. They want democratic order to return to Bangladesh,” Khasru said.
