RAJSHAHI, May 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Food has cancelled the licenses of 61 rice husking mills in the Rajshahi division for non-compliance with the terms and conditions of their contracts signed between the governments.

Regional Controller of Food Main Uddin told BSS that they cancelled the licenses of those who had signed contracts but didn't supply rice.

In addition, the owners of 913 other mills were also alerted for their non-cooperation in rice procurement activities.

He also said 162 mill owners didn't supply rice properly despite signing contracts with the government. Thirty of those supplied 80 percent rice and seventy-one supplied 50 percent rice. But 61 mill-owners had remained reluctant to supply rice.

Main Uddin said licenses of those mill-owners who didn't sign contracts with the government for supplying rice were also cancelled.

The food department had set the target to procure 1,11,263 metric tons of boiled rice during the aman rice procurement season of 2024-2025 fiscal, but 94,707 tons of rice were procured in the division.
