CHATTOGRAM, May 5, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain sought US assistance to resolve various problems including water logging of port city of Chattogram.

He sought the assistance when US Charge d'affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson called on city mayor at Nagar Bhaban on Monday.

The Mayor thanked the US for its continued support for the development of Bangladesh.

Narrating the ongoing activities for the development of Chattogram, Mayor Shahadat mentioned that CCC was on vigorous efforts in coordination with all concerned organizations for the development of the port city.

However, it would be easier to work if there was a city government.

Emphasizing that a city government is needed for development of Chittagong, the Mayor said, "We have already explained to the central government that introduction of city government system is foremost necessity to develop the port city as well as to bring a sustainable solution to the acute problems in a coordinated manner".

US Charge d'affaires Tracy Ann Jacobson said it is necessary to bring about a balance in trade between Bangladesh and the United States.

"Bangladesh imports very little compared to the amount it exports to the United States. In this case, Bangladesh can bring about a balance in trade by purchasing high-quality machinery and technology products directly from the United States," he added.

CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, US Embassy's Economic Officer D. Richard Rasmussen, Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed among others were present at the function.

Earlier, the city Mayor, along with Charge d'affaires Tracy Ann Jacobson, visited the Commonwealth War Cemetery in the city's Badshah Mia Chowdhury Road.
