ACC sues Papon, wife and ex-Beximco director

DHAKA, May 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed 
three separate cases against Nazmul Hassan Papon, former youth and sports 
minister and president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), his wife 
Roksana Hasan and former Executive Director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals 
Limited and BCB Director Ismail Haider Mollick.

They have been made accused of illegally amassing wealth worth Taka 35.77 
crore, ACC Director General (DG) Akhtar Hossain disclosed the information 
while briefing newsmen at the commission's headquarters in the capital's 
Segunbagicha today. 

In addition, the ACC has also sought the wealth statements from another five 
persons, he said.

Akhtar Hossain said that the ACC recommended for filing cases against Papon 
under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004; section 5(2) 
of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the 
Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012, as he amassed assets worth of Taka 
20,07 crore without known sources of income.

Additionally, he is accused of conducting suspicious transactions totalling 
Tk 742.72 crore through 20 bank accounts under his name.

His wife, Roksana Hasan, has been accused of amassing illegal wealth worth 
Taka 12 crore beyond her known income sources. She allegedly conducted 
suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 49,33 crore through 11 bank 
accounts, the ACC official said.

The ACC recommended suing against her under section 27(1) of the Anti-
Corruption Commission Act, 2004; section 4(2) of the Prevention of Money 
Laundering Act, 2012 and section 109 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Ismail Haider was accused of acquiring wealth worth Taka 3.70 
crore beyond known sources of income, Hossain said, adding: "He allegedly 
conducted suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 3,30,26,701.89 through 
his eight bank accounts. 

The ACC also recommended filing another separate case against him.

In addition to filing the cases, the ACC has also sought wealth statements 
from Papon's daughter Rushmila Rahman, son Rafsan Rahman children and 
Ismail's wife.

In addition, the ACC has also sought wealth statements from Papon's daughter 
Rushmila Rahman, son Rafsan Rahman, Rakin Al Mahmood, strategic brand manager 
of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, his wife Sunehra Rahman and Ismail Haider's 
wife Sultana Nijhum.
