Two more on remand in Sohag killing case

DHAKA, July 23, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today placed two more accused on a three-day remand each in the case filed over the brutal killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag in the capital’s Mitford area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqur Rahman issued the order for the remand of Md Pervej and Jahirul Islam as police produced them before the court and pleaded for 10-day remand for each.

Police arrested them from Keraniganj earlier today, reaching the number of total arrest in the case to 11. The accused of the case are- Mahmudul Hasan Mahin, Titon Gazi, Md Alamgir, Monir alias Lomba Monir, Tarek Rahman Robin, Sajib Bepari, Rajib Bepari, Nannu Kazi, Rizwan Uddin, Md Pervej and Md Jahirul Islam.

Sohag, 43, was hacked, beaten, and stoned to death on July 9 at Mitford in the Old part of the city.

A day after the incident, Sohag’s sister Monjuara Begum filed the case with Kotwali thana.
