SP Iqbal suspended due to unauthorized absence

DHAKA, July 23, 2025 (BSS) - The government has suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Iqbal Hossain from service on charges of unauthorized absence from his workplace.

A gazette notification, signed by Home Affairs Senior Secretary (Public Security Division) Nasimul Gani, was published on July 18 regarding the suspension.

According to the order, Iqbal, former deputy commissioner of Wari Division under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), had been absent from duty without permission since August 28, 2024.

As per Section 3(g), Rule 2(cha) and Sub-rule 12(1) of the Government Service Act, 2018, his conduct has been considered an act of desertion and he has been suspended from the service with effect from the first day of his absence, it said.

Mohammad Iqbal Hossain is currently attached with Range DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Office, Khulna as SP, the notification said.

It, however, said that Iqbal Hossain will continue to receive a food allowance during the suspension period.
