DHAKA, July 25, 2025 (BSS) - Police have recovered a licensed pistol, a magazine, and 11 bullets, snatched from a businessman in the city's Banasree area on July 21, and arrested the alleged snatcher from the capital's Ashkona area last night (Thursday).

The arrested youth, Yasin Patwari, 24, was detained from a rented flat in Pashchimpara, Ashkona, under Dakkhinkhan Police Station around 9:30pm on July 24, said a press release issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today.

According to police, the victim Md Amirul Islam, a contractor by profession, was returning to Dhaka from one of his ongoing project sites in Narsingdi on the night of July 21.

"As he reached in front of Abesh Hotel on Banasree main road, Amirul got down from his vehicle and suddenly felt unwell. Sitting down on the footpath, he was approached by an unknown youth who, along with Amirul's car driver, helped him back into the vehicle," the DMP statement said.

The youth also boarded the vehicle with Amirul. Upon reaching home in Banasree, Amirul thanked the youth for his assistance. However, at that moment, the youth cunningly snatched away Amirul's licensed pistol and ammunition and fled the scene.

Shocked by the incident, Amirul later filed a case with Rampura Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, police identified and tracked Yasin to his hideout and arrested him. The snatched pistol, magazine, and 11 rounds of bullets were recovered from under his pillow during the raid.

Police said legal proceedings against the arrestee are underway.
