JHENAIDAH, July 26, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 31 gold bars worth Taka 5.83 crore from Maheshpur border of the district early this morning.

Acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team from Cumillapara BOP conducted a raid in the border area around 5.30 am. Sensing the presence of the BGB men, the smuggler fled the spot leaving three pots. BGB members recovered the gold bars weighing 4,303 grams from the pots, a BGB-58 Battalion press release said at noon.

Maheshpur BGB-58 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam said that surveillance has been further increased in the border areas. Regular operations against smugglers will continue. 

Officer-in-Charge of Maheshpur Police Station Sajjadur Rahman said legal action will be taken in this regard.
