DHAKA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Friday arrested two suspects from Dhaka and Lalmonirhat by unearthing the mystery behind the air conditioner (AC) explosion in the BIAM Foundation at Dhaka's Hatirjheel that killed one people and injured another.
The arrested have been identified as Administrative Officer Zahidul Islam and his hired accomplice Md. Ashraful Islam.
Both of the arrestees gave confessional statements under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before the court.
The PBI's Special Investigation and Operation Unit in its two month long investigation has found that some employees of BIAM Foundation including its Administrative Officer Zahidul Islam, office assistant Md. Abdul Malek and diver Md. Faruk was behind the misdeed.
Administrative officer Zahidul masterminded the incident aimed at burning to ashes various important documents and he hired Ashraful Islam for doing the misdeed, said a PBI press release.
BIAM's office assistant Md. Abdul Malek, who died in the explosion and critically injured driver Md. Faruk accompanied Zahidul in the misdeed, it said.
Earlier on February 27 in the afternoon, a loud explosion occurred in room no. 504 of the BIAM Building of BCS (Administration) Kalyan Bahumukhi Samabay Samity Limited.
The explosion destroyed the association's documents, papers related to registration, check books of bank accounts, four contracts related to land purchase, electrical equipment, furniture and AC of the room, etc.
During the incident, office assistant Md. Abdul Malek died on the spot and the driver of the association's secretary, Md. Faruk, was seriously injured and was admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) here.
General Secretary of BCS (Administration) Kalyan Bahumukhi Samabay Samity Limited, retired secretary Md. Mashiur Rahman filed a case under Section-326/302/336/427/34 of the Penal Code against unknown accused with Hatirjheel Police Station.
