Tribunal sends 3 accused to jail in Lakshmipur crimes against humanity case

DHAKA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 today sent three accused to jail in a crimes against humanity case lodged over killing of five students in Lakshmipur during the July-August mass uprising.

The three accused are Lakshmipur Sadar upazilla Awami League president Humayun Kabir Patwari, Sadar upazila Digli union parishad chairman Salah Uddin Zaved and organizing secretary of district unit of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Shahin Alam.

The three-judge panel of the ICT-2 led by Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury passed the order as the prisons authorities produced the trio before the court. The tribunal also allowed ICT investigation agency to interrogate the accused.

Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam and prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim were present during the hearing.

According to the case documents, cadres of Awami League, Jubo League and BCL opened fire on agitating students-people in Lakshmipur on August 4, killing five innocents. The martyrs were Al Asad Afnan, Sabbir Hossain Russel, Kawser Hossain, Osman Goni and Md Sujon.
