Shammo killing case: Three placed on remand

DHAKA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed three people on different terms of remand in a case lodged over the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo.

Of the three accused, Mehedi Hasan and Hridoy Islam were placed on a two-day remand each, while Ripon was placed on a one-day remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on a four-day remand each.

Police arrested Hridoy and Ripon on May 26, 2025, and Mehedi the next day. Of the three, Ripon has already given a confessional statement in the case.

Shammo was a final-year student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. He was stabbed to death at Suhrawardy Udyan on May 13, 2025.

Shariful Islam, brother of Shammo, filed the murder case with Shahbagh Police Station on May 14.
