144 acres of forest land in Purbachal freed in eviction drive

DHAKA, 28 July 2025 (BSS) -   A major eviction drive was carried out today in the biodiversity-rich area of Purbachal in the capital following the directive of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry.

During the operation, 4.6 acres of illegally occupied land were recovered out of the total 144 acres under encroachment, said a press release. 

A total of 155 illegally built houses belonging to 44 families were demolished. The estimated market value of the recovered land is approximately TK 70 crore.

As a result of this operation, the entire 144 acres of forest land in Purbachal have now been declared free from illegal occupation.

Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, Dhaka led the operation. 

The drive was conducted with the support of the Rupganj Army Camp, RAB-1, BGB, Kaliganj Upazila Administration, Kaliganj Police Station, RAJUK, and the Forest Department.

The government is committed to taking such strict measures to protect biodiversity and conserve forest lands.
