RANGAMATI, July 30, 2025 (BSS)- The Rangamati hanging bridge popularly known and Jhulonto Setu which is also known as the symbol of Rangamati tourism has been submerged due to rising water in Kaptai lake.
The Rangamati Parjatan Corporation has issued restriction on movement of the tourists since this morning as the bridge has partially went under water.
Officials said, “Some parts of the bridge went under water, somewhere it’s six inches and somewhere it’s is more than that. In that situation, walking or all movement on the bridge has been suspended for indefinite period.”
Restriction on using the bridge has caused immense sufferings for students and local people of both sides of the bridge to communicate with other side.
Talking to BSS, Manager of Rangamati Parjatan Corporatiomn Alok Bikash Chakma said the parjatan hanging bridge submerged due to interrupted rainfall along with the onrush water coming from the upper stream.
The upper deck of the bridge already has sunk under water and restrictions have been issued on the movement of the tourists, he said adding that the restrictions will remain effective until the water of the Kaptai Lake recede.
The 335 feet long hanging bridge located at the tourist area of Sadar uapzila under the Rangamati hill district was constructed in 1986.
Officials of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Station said water level of the Kaptai lake reached to 105.54 meters above mean sea level (msl), allowing the station to operate all five of its units and producing this season’s highest 218 MW electricity.
