DHAKA, July 30, 2025 (BSS) -The inaugural session of a landmark three-day regional workshop titled "Promoting Agroecological Approaches for Sustainable Transformation of Agri-food Systems in South Asia" was held in Thimphu, Bhutan on Tuesday.
Jointly organized by the SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Bhutan and international development organization Welthungerhilfe, the event brings together policymakers, experts and practitioners to evaluate current agroecological policies and chart a roadmap for wider implementation across the region.
Delegates from five SAARC member countries - Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka - are participating in the workshop. according to a press release issued today.
The gathering also features a distinguished lineup of national and international speakers, panelists, academics and professionals from the fields of agriculture and environmental sciences.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Thinley Namgyel, Secretary of Bhutan's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, who attended as the chief guest there.
Tanvir Ahmad Torophder, Director (ARD and SDF) at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu and Yonten Gyamtsho, Director of the Department of Agriculture, Bhutan, were present as Guests of Honour.
