DHAKA, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain today said fascism has fallen in the country due to everyone's unity but attempts are being made to create a rift in the unity from inside and outside.
“Autocrats are not sitting back, they are lurking around,” he told a discussion and honouring the families of the martyrs of the July Uprising at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium here.
Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) Dhaka Centre organized the event with Engineer Md. Helal Uddin Talukder in the chair.
Zahid said those who are trying to postpone the elections will never be able to succeed. The ongoing unrest in the country will be eliminated through quick elections, he said.
BNP Standing Committee Member Hafiz Uddin said no one gave their lives in the July-August Uprising to decide whether to vote through the PR system or distribute seats proportionally rather they wanted to establish democracy and the only way to establish democracy is through elections.
“We have to establish democracy through a fair election. The general public wants someone they know in the area as a leader, someone they will always find by their side. With the PR system, it will be seen that the MP from Bhola lives in Kurigram,” he said.
Savar’s martyr Asadul Yamin’s father Md. Mohiuddin, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque, BNP Science and Technology Affairs Assistant Secretary Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Executive Committee Member Engineer Abdus Sohban, Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB) former Secretary General Alamgir Hasin Ahmed, IEB General Secretary Professor Dr. Sabbir Mostafa Khan, IEB Dhaka Centre Member Engineer Lokman also spoke.
Shaheed Wasim Akram, Shaheed Asadul Yamin, Shaheed Rabiul Islam Limon, Shaheed Rabbi Mia, Shaheed Rakib Hossain, Shaheed Ahnaf Abir, Shaheed Ayan and Shaheed Rudra's families were honoured at the event.
