DHAKA, Aug 3, 2025 (BSS) – Police has arrested 21 leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations from different places in the capital in the last 24 hours.

The arrested have been identified as - general secretary of Fardabad Union of Bancharampur Upazila of Brahmanbaria district, Md. Delwar Hossain,  Member of Jubo League of Pirganj Thana of Thakurgaon district, Md. Gias Uddin (35),  President of Nabinagar Thana Municipal AL of Brahmanbaria district, Borhan Uddin Ahmed (70),  Joint Secretary of Ward No. 20 of Shahbag Thana AL, Md. Ibrahim (62),  Banani Thana Ward 20 Chhatra League Vice President and Dhaka City North Member Md. Badsha Khan (29), Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Central Publicity Secretary, Md. Tariqul Islam alias Tarek (27),  AL Central Sub-Committee and Forest and Environment Affairs Committee Member, Sabbir Majumder (43),  Jhalakathi District Kathalia Thana AL Vice President and Kathalia Thana Rampura Union AL President Md. Zakir Hossain Farazi (53), Bhola District Char Fashion Upazila AL Organizing Secretary Md. Morshed (51),  Dhaka City North Sramik League Vice President Anisur Rahman Hitlu (48), Uttar Khan Thana AL Executive Committee Member and Dhaka North City AL  Kachkura Unit Former, Acting President Jahangir Alam (50), former general secretary of Bangladesh Textile University of Chhatra League, Md. Rezaul Karim (33), former member of the central executive committee of Chhatra League Mainul Hossain Sumon (48),  Organizing secretary of Uttarkhan Thana AL Md. Azizul Haque (45), Cultural secretary of Bangshal Thana Kayettuli branch of AL, Md. Rocky alias Raihan alias Ruku (33), President of Jhalakati Municipality AL of Jhalakati district and former mayor of Jhalakati Municipality Liaquat Ali Talukder, Senior vice-president of Dhaka South City Awami Matsajibi League, Mahmud Sikder (47), general secretary of Uttara Purba Thana No. 1 Ward of Chhatra League Hameem Ahmed alias Minhajul Abedin (23), general secretary of Dhaka District Awami Information and Technology League, San Mohammad (42), former president of Shyampur Police Station No. 54 Swechchhasebak League Saymon Rahman (42), vice-president of Khilgaon Police Station No. 1 Swechchhasebak League, Md. Al Mamun Sarkar (44).

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) briefed newsmen about the arrests in a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre at Minto Road here. 
 
Separate teams of police arrested them from Paltan, Jhigatola, Wari, Jurain Railway Line, Nikunja-2, Dakshin Goran,  Gulshan, Motojheel, Rupnagar, New Market, Uttarkhan, Uttara, Mirpur, and Demra areas.   

Of the detainees, Gias is one of the admin of the propaganda cell of former foreign minister Dr. Hasan of the ousted Awami League government. 

All of the 21 arrestees have been accused in multiple cases.
