SAVAR, Aug 3, 2025 (BSS) - Savar police today arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police Mohammad Ali from Murapara area under Rupganj Thana of Narayanganj district for his alleged involvement in killing Shaikh Ashabul Yamin.

Ashabul Yamin, a third year student of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), was killed in a police firing on an armored police car (APC) near Savar bus stand on July 18 last year. Police, by the APC, allegedly dragged his body from the bus stand area and left it near Pakijar More.

ASI Mohammad Ali had been absconding since August 5 last year.

Yamin’s family members later filed a murder case with Savar Model Thana in this connection and the case is now under trial at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), police said.

Savar police has already handed him over the Chief Coordinator of the Investigating Agency under the ICT. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Model Thana Juwel Miah told BSS that arrested Mohmmad Ali is the son of Md Mansur Ali of Kalaihati village under Kishoreganj Sadar upazila. 

He was attached with Dhaka Zila Police Lines after the change over on August 5 last year, the OC added.
