NARSHINGDI, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said that the long 16 years of misrule by the Awami League had devastated people's lives.

He said, "August 5 was the outcome of prolonged repression by the Awami League, which forced people from all walks of life, including students, to take to the streets."

Dr Moyeen made the remarks while addressing a victory rally in Palash upazila of the district as the chief guest, marking the first anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

BNP and its associate bodies organized the rally.

He said that several lakh cases were filed against opposition leaders during the Awami League's rule, and that even grassroots leaders, as well as former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, were not spared.

Terming BNP a democratic political party, Dr Moyeen said BNP does not believe in revenge. He added that no civilized nation can survive without the practice of democracy.

He expressed hope that the interim government would soon establish a democratic government by holding a fair and credible election.

Earlier, the victory rally began from Gorashal Bypass Road and paraded different thoroughfares of the Narshingdi-2 constituency.

Several thousand leaders and activists of BNP and its front organizations participated in the rally.
