RANGPUR, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has said elections cannot be delayed in the name of reforms as the country's existing law allows fascist Hasina to be tried for genocide.

“The people of the country have been waiting for over 15 years to vote. So, the people's desire to vote must be fulfilled at the earliest,” he said.

He was addressing as the chief guest at a victory rally discussion on the anniversary of the fall of fascism and the victory of the historic student-public uprising at the Grand Hotel intersection in the city this afternoon (Wednesday).

District and metropolitan units of BNP organised the victory rally and discussion with Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Convener Md Shamsuzzaman Samu in the chair.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that although the first step was completed with victory in the July mass uprising, the final victory will be achieved through elections. “Therefore, elections must be held at the right time without further delay,” he said.

He said, “We want to believe in the assurance given regarding the election of the Chief Adviser. However, there may be attempts to thwart the assurance of the election of the Chief Adviser. For this, we all have to cooperate with him.”

The veteran BNP leader also said that those who were martyred in the July uprising dreamed of seeing a new Bangladesh. BNP wants to realize the dream of the martyrs by establishing a new Bangladesh.

“I have the faith that the people will give that responsibility to the BNP through the next election,” he said.

At this time, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy called upon the BNP leaders and activists to work towards realizing the dream of equal rights in the new Bangladesh that Shaheed Abu Sayeed had seen.

BNP's Joint Organizing Secretary Md Abdul Khaleque, District BNP Convener Md Saiful Islam, Metropolitan BNP Member-Secretary Advocate Mahfuz-Un-Nabi Don and District BNP Member-Secretary Md Anisur Rahman Laku addressed the rally as special guests.

Later, a huge victory procession was brought out from the Grand Hotel intersection in the city and it circled the main roads of the city.

Thousands of leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations from various unions and upazilas of the district and different wards of Rangpur City Corporation participated this victory procession.
