DHAKA, Aug 7, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque after the end of his seven-day remand in a case lodged for allegedly manipulating the Supreme Court verdict on the caretaker government system.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced the former chief justice before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of the probe in the case.

Earlier on July 30, the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah had placed him on a seven-day remand in the case.

Supreme Court lawyer Muhammad Muzahidul Islam filed the case against Justice ABM Khairul Haque on August 27, 2024, with the Shahbagh Police Station under sections 219 and 466 of the penal code.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Justice Khairul from the capital's Dhanmondi area on July 24, 2025. He was sent to jail on the same day after being shown arrested in a case filed over the killing of Abdul Qaium Ahad, during the July-August mass uprising in the capital's Jatrabari area.
