DHAKA, August 7, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed Sumaiya Zafrin, wife of Major Sadikul Haque (currently under military custody), on a five-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over a secret meeting allegedly organized by activists of banned outfit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order after police produced 26-year-old Zafrin before the court and sought a seven-day remand for interrogation.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police detained her from the capital's Mirpur DOHS area last night.

According to the case statement, around 300 to 400 people - including leaders and activists of Awami League and BCL, as well as some retired government officials - participated in a secret day-long meeting on July 8 at KB Convention Centre, adjacent to Bashundhara Residential Area.

The case alleges that the meeting aimed to hatch conspiracies against the government, including a plan to create unrest in the capital by laying siege to the Shahbagh area, with the ultimate goal of paving the way for fascist Sheikh Hasina's return to the country.

Sub-inspector Jyotirmoy Mondal of Bhatara Police Station filed the case on July 13.
