Travel ban imposed on ex-CEC Kazi Rakibuddin, 11 others

DHAKA, August 7, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today imposed a travel ban on 12 former election commission officials, including former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed in a case lodged for manipulating the national elections.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazul Islam passed the order, allowing a plea of the investigation officer of the case.
 
The other accused, who were barred by the court from leaving the country, are- former election commission secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, former election commissioners Mohammad Abu Hafiz, Brigadier General (Retd) Muhammad Zabed Ali, Md Shah Newaz, Mohammad Sadiq, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, Brigadier General (Retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, Brigadier General (Retd) Md Ahsan Habib Khan, Brigadier General (Retd) Md Alamgir and Md Anisur Rahman.
 
BNP national executive committee member Salah Uddin Khan filed the case on June 22 against 24 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three former chief election commissioners, on the allegation of manipulating the national elections in 2014, 2018 and 2024.
