CHATTOGRAM, Aug 8, 2025 (BSS) - Two applicants for teaching positions at Chittagong University's Drama Department have tested positive for drugs and will not be appointed, university authorities confirmed on Friday.

The candidates -- Golam Rabbani and Dr. Imrul Asad -- tested positive for ganja in mandatory dope tests conducted as part of the university's recruitment process.

The results were confirmed on August 4 by CU's Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mohammad Abu Tayab.

University sources said the candidates had successfully passed the written, presentation, and oral stages of the selection process held on July 28. However, the final dope test disqualified them.

Speaking to reporters, CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan said, "Drug testing is now mandatory for the recruitment of teachers, students, officers, and employees at this university. We will not appoint anyone who tests positive."
