RAJSHAHI, Aug 9, 2025 (BSS) – After a long-gap of 17 years, the biennial council of Rajshahi city unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to be held at Zila Parishad auditorium here tomorrow (Sunday).

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to address the council meeting virtually as the chief guest.

Excitement and enthusiasm are prevailing among the BNP leaders and workers centering tomorrow's council across the city at present.

Main roads of the city and its crossings were decorated with huge banners, festoons and posters. Party workers also decorated the party office with party flags and illuminated it.

To mark the council, local unit BNP held a press conference at its party office at Malopara in the city today.

Valiant Freedom Fighter Abdus Salam, Advisory council member of BNP Chairperson and Rajshahi divisional coordinator, readout a written statement at the press conference.

He said massive works for revitalization of the city unit BNP from the grassroots are going on for the last couple of months continuously as per the direction of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Councils of the communities, wards and thana levels were already completed successfully. "We have built new leaderships through the process and they will strengthen the organizational foundation of the party more", he added.

He also said the council is not only an organizational ceremony but it will also add a new inspiration to the forthcoming political programmes.

"New leadership in the city BNP will be selected that will play a pioneer role towards the coming movement and election preparation," Abdus Salam continued.

Local BNP leaders Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, Advocate Ershad Ali Isha, Nazrul Huda and Mamun-or-Rashid, among others, were present on the occasion.

Addressing the press, Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon said the council will be held with all BNP family members, including councilors and delegates from seven thana and 35 ward committees.
