DHAKA, Aug 9, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan has said the "sun of democracy" has risen once again in Bangladesh through the 2024 July Uprising with renewed ray of hope and this hope must not be extinguished.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled "July Revolution: Advancement of Democracy", held at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club in the capital today.

The event was organized by the Human Research and Analysis Foundation.

Paying tribute to those who participated in the July Uprising, Moyeen said, "Our respect and gratitude to every fighter of July. They stood firm against the bloodthirsty gaze of fascist Hasina and helped save the nation by sacrificing their lives."

He referred to the movement as a turning point in the country's political landscape, asserting that "the rising sun of democracy cannot be allowed to set again in Bangladesh."

Recalling personal memories of BNP's founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, he praised him for his "discipline, regularity and honesty.

Regarding the Awami League's long-standing political torture, he said that from 1978 to 2025, BNP leaders and activists were systematically targeted.

"In the last 15 years alone, more than 100,000 cases have been filed against BNP members, affecting over 50 lakh people from national leaders like Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman to innocent students in rural areas," he added.

He said that the AL government's loyal police force was used as a tool of repression against opposition voices.
