Bangladesh mission in Port Louis commemorates July Uprising anniversary

DHAKA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis has organized commemorative events marking the first anniversary of the historic 2024 July Uprising.
 
The event was held at the High Commission premise on Saturday, a PID handout said today. 

Messages from the President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus were read out in the event.

Dr Zokey Ahad, Bangladesh's High Commissioner to Mauritius, in his remarks, paid deepest tribute to all martyrs and survivors of the July Uprising. 

The High Commissioner thanked the expatriate Bangladeshis for attending the programme and also for their heroic role during Mass Uprising.

The High Commissioner said the July Uprising paved the way for a new version of Bangladesh. 
He said that the uprising is a turning point in Bangladesh's democracy.

He urged all expatriate Bangladeshis to work together to support the initiatives of the interim government in building a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh. 

Later, one-minute silence was observed to pay homage and tribute to the martyrs of the Mass Uprising.

The event featured a special exhibition of posters and photographs highlighting key moments of the mass movement and the atrocities committed during the fascist Sheikh Hasina regime.

Also, documentaries titled 'July Anirban' 'Abrar Fahad', 'Deepak Kumar Goswami Speaking', 'Private Universities in July', 'July Women', 'Will You Sleep Ever Sleep Ma', 'July 18 Mahabubul' and 'Requiems for July Martyrs' were screened during the event.

Special munajat were offered for the departed souls of the martyrs, well-being of the injured survivors and for the continued peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.

The event was attended by all the High Commission officials and staff, Bangladeshi expatriates there, and their families.
