Court issues summons for plaintiff's presence in lawyer Alif murder case

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS)- A Chattogram court has issued a summons for the plaintiff's personal presence at a hearing regarding the admissibility of the report filed by the police station accusing 38 people in the murder case of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.

The hearing will take place on August 25 in presence of the plaintiff. Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud has set the date for Sunday.

Earlier on June 1, the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Assistant Police Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kotwali Zone Mahfuzur Rahman submitted the charge-sheet to the court, accusing 38 people including Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in the case. 

Advocate Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury said that in the sensational Alif murder case, the plaintiff and the deceased father could not appear in court due to illness because of their age.

Later, the court issued summons for the plaintiff for his appearance. He mentioned that according to the charge sheet filed by the investigation officer of the case, there are a total of 42 accused in the case and those discovered during the investigation. 

Of these, the IO has recommended the release of one of the accused in the case. 

Currently, 20 people including ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, are under arrest with 18 others absconding. 

On November 26 last year, lawyer Saiful was beaten and hacked to death during a clash over the bail of Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das.
 
His father Jamal Uddin filed a murder case naming 31 people as the plaintiff in this murder case.
 
Additionally, five more cases were filed for attacks on police, obstruction of work, attacks on lawyers and trial seekers and the explosion of cocktails.
