DHAKA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) – Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher today said that the upcoming election must be held on the basis of reforms.

“Our demand is very clear… We do want elections… we want to participate in the election, but it must be free, fair, credible, and participatory,” he said.

He made the remarks after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.

A level playing field is a precondition for the election, he said, adding that the CEC has assured them of holding a fair election. “We want to place our confidence in the CEC,” he added.

The Jamaat leader also said that they discussed the law and order situation in the country during the meeting.

He mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami has no objection to the scheduled date of the election. “The election is set to be held in the first week of February, and we have no objection to that,” he stated.

However, he noted that two key issues must be addressed before the election: first, visible progress in holding trials, and second, ensuring that the next election is held based on the implementation of the recommendations made by the consensus commission.
