JCD men instructed to be respectful, tolerant towards dissent on social media

DHAKA, August 11, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has issued an urgent directive to its leaders and activists regarding responsible use of social media, underscoring the importance of humility, civility, tolerance, organizational discipline, and mutual respect.

The directive was jointly announced by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. It was formally released to the media by Office Secretary Jahangir Alam.

The statement said that in today's digital era, social media has become a powerful platform for public expression, with its influence and reach expanding rapidly. 

In this context, JCD members at all levels are urged to act responsibly online, showing respect for differing views and ideologies, upholding democratic values, honoring women, promoting religious coexistence, and maintaining reverence for religious principles. 

"It is must to roll with the organization's ideals, core values, and disciplined culture," said the statement.

The directive said that ideological and policy differences with other groups are natural but insisted that such debates must be conducted with mutual respect and dignity.

On gender issues, the statement affirmed that Bangladesh JCD holds deep respect for all women and actively encourages greater female participation in politics. It warned that "any behavior inconsistent with the organization's stance will prompt appropriate action."

Regarding religious matters, the statement highlighted that JCD belief in religious freedom and peaceful coexistence among all faiths. It reiterated full respect for the Islamic principle of modesty (hijab-niqab), noting that "Whenever attempts have been made to impose restrictions on hijab-niqab in various educational institutions in the name of secularism, we have repeatedly protested and will continue to do so in the future." 

It added, "Our leaders and activists will follow the core principles of humility, politeness, tolerance, organizational discipline, and mutual harmony in all matters on social media."
