RANGPUR, Aug 12, 2025 (BSS) - Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen has called upon officials, employees and everyone to make efforts from their respective places to prevent corruption and establish good governance.
"We are servants of the state. If we establish good governance and justice in our own places, there is no need to worry much about it. If everyone tries in their own places, we will be able to give good governance to the state," he said.
He said this as the chief guest while addressing a divisional level view-exchange meeting on the role of government officers/employees in preventing corruption and establishing good governance in the city today.
The Rangpur divisional administration in association with the Rangpur Divisional ACC office organised the event at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
With Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam in the chair, heads of government departments and organizations, and high-ranking officials working at the city, district, and divisional levels participated in the event.
Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam and Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali spoke as special guests.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal delivered the welcome address.
He highlighted steps taken to prevent corruption and establish good governance.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain presented an average picture of the department-based corruption through a PowerPoint presentation, suggesting all concerned way-outs.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali said that the 'culture of corruption' got an institutional shape during the tenure of the ousted fascist regime.
He suggested ensuring complete transparency in the process of appointment, transfer and promotion of police members to reduce corruption and establish good governance in the department.
DIG Aminul Islam said, "To fulfill dreams of the July-August martyrs, everyone should work towards building a new Bangladesh with the spirit and patriotism of the July Uprising and move forward. Otherwise, fascism can return in any form."
The participating officials presented to the ACC Chairman ways to prevent corruption in their respective departments and expressed hope that they would play a stronger role in preventing corruption to establish good governance.
Citing many metaphorical stories and anecdotes, the ACC Chairman said that he does not believe that corruption can be completely eradicated, but its extent can be reduced.
"A huge change has taken place through the July Uprising and happenings on August 5 creating many prospects. Although there was no chance for promotion during the fascist regime, many of us have been promoted. We are grateful to the martyrs," he said.
After the country gained independence in 1971, there was a wave of fake freedom fighters. About 80-90 percent of the people listed were fake freedom fighters. If any syndromes of fake coordinators are seen after August 5, they should be resisted.
"We are responsible for leading the previous government towards fascism. Many of us used to go to political leaders for promotions and extra privileges and claim that we are their people. This culture must not be repeated," he said.
The ACC Chairman called on government officials to make strong efforts on office automation, modernization of the tendering process and prevention of corruption and establish good governance in their own departments.
