Jamaat Ameer returns home after successful bypass surgery

DHAKA, Aug 12, 2025 (BSS) – Ten days after a successful bypass surgery, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman returned home today.

Around 11:00 am, he was discharged from the United Hospital in the city’s Gulshan area, said a Jamaat press release.

Senior Jamaat leaders, including Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman and Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary Generals Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dr Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal and Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Central Executive Council Member and Secretary of the Publicity and Media Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, Central Executive Council Member Mobarak Hossain, Dhaka South City Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, Dhaka North City Ameer Md Selim Uddin, Dhaka South City Secretary Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud, and Dhaka North City Secretary Dr Rezaul Karim were present when the Ameer-e-Jamaat left the hospital for home.

Later, the Jamaat leaders held a press brief where they expressed gratitude to the Almighty Allah, saying, “We are grateful to the most merciful and Almighty Allah, who granted a swift recovery of anti-fascist movement leader, a key figure fighting for beloved motherland, and our dear Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman after major surgery—Alhamdulillah”.

They said that recovery from such a complex bypass surgery usually takes a long time, but the Jamaat Ameer’s progress was comparatively much better.

The Jamaat leaders extended their thanks to surgeon Professor Dr Jahangir Kabir and his team, the hospital owner, and all those involved in the surgery and post-operative care.

They said, “The Jamaat Ameer is no longer a leader of just one party; the entire nation respects and trusts him and considers him indispensable for shaping the future of Bangladesh. By the grace of Allah, we hope he will be able to appear in public within the next three weeks to serve the country and the nation.”

The Jamaat leaders said the Ameer-e-Jamaat conveyed greetings and gratitude to the country’s people for praying for his recovery and requested to continue prayers for his full recovery. 

Calling upon the party supporters worldwide to pray for the recovery of Ameer-e-Jammat, they said, “If Almighty Allah wills, you would meet, talk to and hear directly from him again.”
