DHAKA, August 12, 2025 (BSS) – A three-day SAARC workshop on sustainable family farming in the livestock sector began yesterday in Kathmandu, Nepal, focusing on creating strategies to boost family farming in livestock across South Asia.

The workshop has been organized with the joint effort of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Agriculture Centre, Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Asian Farmers Association, and Heifer International Nepal, a press release said. 

A total of 65 participants from six SAARC countries and neighboring regions are taking part in the workshop.

Senior Program specialist at the SAARC Agriculture center in Dhaka Dr. Mohammad Yunus Ali has been maintaining coordination among the participants.  

Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary of Agriculture Development of Nepal inaugurated the workshop. Officials from the SAARC Secretariat and Nepal’s Department of Livestock Services also attended.

Experts, farmers, and policymakers will collaborate to draft policy recommendations and an action plan to strengthen sustainable livestock family farming by the end of the event.
