Ex-law minister Anisul shown arrested in July uprising cases

DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today showed former law minister Anisul Huq arrested in separate cases filed over murder and attempted murder during the July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam passed the order as police produced him before the court and prayed to show him arrested in the cases over the murder of Shawon Shikder and the attempted murder of Md Ashraful.

According to case documents, Shawon Shikder was shot while returning to his Lalbagh residence on July 19, 2024. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A murder case was filed over the incident on January 21, 2025.

Md Ashraful was shot on July 18, 2024, while participating in an anti-discrimination movement rally in Azimpur Residential Area of the capital. The bullet struck his left eye, leaving him blind in one eye. He filed the attempted murder case on July 17, 2025.

Anisul Huq was arrested from the capital's Sadarghat area on August 13, 2024, as he, along with Salman F Rahman, allegedly attempted to flee the city through the river route. Since then, he has been shown arrested and placed on remand in multiple cases lodged over crimes committed during the July-August mass uprising.
