DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate raids at Khulna and Faridpur districts arrested two main suspects in two sensational murders in Dhaka's Keraniganj and Faridpur's Bhanga areas on Sunday and Monday.

The arrested have been identified as Azharul Sardar (36), son of Samad Sardar, of Keshabpur Village under Keshabpur Thana of Jashore district and Md. Zahurul Munshi alias Sultan Zahir (25), son of Lukman Munshi, a resident of Charaldia Village under Bhanga Police Station of Faridpur district, said a press release of RAB today.

A joint team of RAB-10 and RAB-6, arrested Azharul in a raid at Zero Point intersection under Harintana police station of Khulna around 9.25pm on Sunday on charges of killing his step son Rakibul Sardar (14), son of Tofura Khatun.

Tofura with her son Rakibul lived in a rented house in Nazirerbag area of Chunkutia under South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka. Rakibul was working in a local embroidery factory.

When Tofura Khatun's first husband Khairul Sardar died, she married Md. Azharul Sardar two years ago.

However, after being tortured after marriage, Tohura divorced Azharul four months ago. Since then, Azharul had been threatening Tohura regularly.

Tohura's son Rakibul went out for work as usual around 9 am on August 14 last and did not return home.

On the morning of August 16, police recovered the body of Rakibul from the detained Azharul's rented house in Chunkutia West Para, South Keraniganj and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Tohura, the mother of the deceased, filed a murder case with South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka on August 17.

In another incident, a team of RAB-10 arrested Zahirul Munshi from Charaldia area under Bhanga Police Station of Faridpur district around 3:25am today on charges of killing Md Redwan (28).

During the raid, a knife, Bank Asia ATM card, driving license, wallet, pair of footwear and bloodstained clothes were recovered from the house of the detained Zahirul's own house.

The victim Reduan, a resident of Baisharashi under Sadarpur Thana of Faridpur district, went missing after leaving his home with his personal Suzuki motorcycle and an iPhone 4 from August 13 last.

When the victim did not return home at the end of the day, his mother Rabeya Begum (46) came to know through her son's friends that Redwan had gone from Fukurhati towards Bhanga at 4:00pm on August 13.

The victim's mother searched various possible places but could not find any trace of him, so she filed a general diary with Sadarpur Police Station in Faridpur and posted about the disappearance on social media including Facebook.

Later, after receiving information from locals on Sunday afternoon, Rabeya Begum identified an unknown body floating in the water from a beel in Charaldia village of Tujarpur union under Bhanga police station and confirmed that the body was that of her son Redwan.

Redwan's mother filed a murder case with Bhanga police station today.
