My TV chairman on 5-day remand in uprising killing case

DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed Md Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of private TV Channel My TV on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of one Asadul Haque Babu on August 5, 2024, in the city's Jatrabari area. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin passed the order as police produced Sathi before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Md Nasir Uddin Sathi from the capital's Gulshan area on August 17 last.

According to the case documents, Md Asadul Haque Babu, 24, joined an anti-iscrimination student movement rally in Jatrabari paka rasta area on August 5, 2024. He got shot on his chest and leg around 2.30 pm and was rushed to nearby hospital. On-duty doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.

On August 30, 2024, Babu's father Joynal Abedin filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station against 25 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
